For a long time we had a Bialetti, oven type self pressurised device. Taste is constant but the preparation become to be more manual everytime. Especially when you need to open to clean and add new coffee it is difficult for ladies.
I've been to Krefeld and MediaMarkt in Brussels.
As usual nobody helped (I dont say nobody is able to help !)...These showrooms are created that you can find some products and it is impossible to get other possibilities or explanation. what you see is what you get !
They tried to impose me to buy a capsule machine...it is more clean; machine designs are much nicer...there are many advantageous compared to a professional coffee machine.
Indeed these machines are neat and tidy; when sombody enter to your kitchen you can proudly show off...but what about the taste ?
In fact there are hundreds of tastes available - which none so far convinced me to replace a classical espresso that I would get in a dirty shop in Italy.
Also the environmental impact is just crazy...we keep on producing plastic (even recyclable) in places we dont need....FINALLY we decided not to have a capsule machine.
I decided to get a normal machine...As my best friend Cemo is a classsical Bialetti user I had no choice but to ask to internet...An online shop called Seattle Coffee Gear had all the answers I need. There are 2 nice ladies making videos of all new models.
First I realised the machines with integrated coffee grinders. These machines are quite expensive and noisy. Ok, they would be good for a small office or a house full of coffee maniacs...
SemiAutomatic
These machines are enough for daily house use. We ended up choosing the Krups XP5280 machine. Important thing is to clarify what you need.
We needed the following :
* Avoid manual tamping (normal espresso machines when you put the coffee to coffee head you need to tamp the coffee in order to prepare for cooking. Tamping is simply applying a pressure on coffee surface to have the ground tied up together. You'd buy a seperate device for this called tamper)
* Easy cleanup. With the push system you can get rid off the coffee remains easily with a button. No need to hit it around (you would normally hear such noises in cafes)
* An auto device to start & stop accordingly (most machines you need to watch coffee dropping in the cup and stop when the cup is full)
* Cup heater (the secret of a good espresso is heated cups; some machines has the top surface as cup heater...otherwise you'd need a seperate heater or to use the microwave)
Krups XP5280 satisfied all our needs.

We hesitated to buy in the beginning due to poor internet critics about steam nozzler. They mention that the nozzle easily broke during cleaning/operation. People were complaining about poorly made krups design (!). I emailed to Krups and they said initial design had some concerns. Now issue is solved - we bought in july11 since than we have good & easy & rather environmental coffee at home.
